FLOOD HERO CEBU

Officially launched on September 27, 2025, Flood Hero Cebu is an innovative initiative that brings together public and private sector stakeholders to tackle Cebu City’s recurring flooding challenges, which disrupt daily life, threaten public safety, and affect business operations. The program aims to not only mitigate flood risks but also to promote long-term resilience through sustainable solutions. Central to the initiative is the focus on flood preparedness, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation, ensuring Cebu is better equipped to handle extreme weather events and urban flooding in the future.

As part of the initiative, Flood Hero Cebu is driving efforts to implement floating booms across Cebu’s five (5) major rivers, which serve as preventive measures against plastic pollution while also addressing flooding. These floating booms help collect and contain debris, particularly plastic waste, that often clogs waterways and contributes to flooding. This solution aligns with Cebu’s vision of becoming the first city in the world with zero contribution to ocean plastic, a key goal in creating a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

By integrating waste management with flood mitigation efforts, Flood Hero Cebu supports the City’s goal of environmental sustainability.
