The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (CCCI) Assessment, Certification, and Accreditation Services (ACAS) Dual Education and Training (DET) Program, alongside various techvoc institutions in Cebu, took part in the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) site visits and consultations.
The Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) was created through Republic Act 11899, which was passed into law in July 2022. In light of its mandate to conduct “a comprehensive national assessment and evaluation of the performance of the Philippine education sector to recommend transformative, concrete, and targeted reforms.
The primary objective of the two-day consultations on August 3-4 was to solicit insights and reflections from industry practitioners that will help the commission in addressing research inquiries arising from the priority domains of the Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Lifelong Learning Standing Committee.
Moreover, the visit aimed to collect information on the industry engagement and investment in upskilling, as well as ensuring quality in the provision of Technical-Vocational Education and Training and Lifelong Learning.
CCCI President Charles Kenneth Co is a member of the Standing Committee for Technical Vocational Education & Lifelong Learning. It is in this context, the Chamber presented the ACAS Program highlighting its milestones, challenges, and policy recommendations during the consultation with Cebu Provincial Gov. Gwendolyn F. Garcia, Cebu 3rd District Representative, Hon. Pablo John “PJ” F. Garcia, and members of the committee.
CCCI’s ACAS Dual Education and Training (DET) Program is an initiative to address “industry job-skills mismatch.” By developing and sustaining an integrated, learning system, the DET supports industry by aligning education, training, and development efforts, fosters industry-academe collaboration, assessment, and certification of qualified workers with bundled competencies, in-company trainers training, accreditation of training companies and academes and most importantly sustains a databank for job matching.
CCCI ACAS offers competencies for construction, food manufacturing, tourism hospitality, travel operations, seafood processing and creative animation. Since its inception, it has produced more than 250 graduates – a milestone where learners/graduates have secured employment with industry partners.
